God: The Love of the Father

This week’s post is by Sophie who proofreads my blog. Shout out to her!!! Do enjoy and share:

The Lord is mighty and wonderful in His ways

In The way in which He orchestrates a series of events.

He is perfect in His timing

Never too late and always on time

I have learnt that it is when we find rest in Him that life begins to make sense in the chaos

It’s such a privilege to know that We have a loving Father who is ever so gracious and merciful

He looks out for His own

Allows us to experience the pain of life

But yet causes something beautiful to come out, life anew

For when He has tried us, we will come forth as gold!

So in the pain, in the happiness

I have joy because the joy of The Lord is my strength

I take comfort in knowing that He will never leave me nor forsake me

I take my pride in Him

Allowing His love to pierce through my soul

I honour Him

Allowing Him to captivate me with His wondrous works

In all things, I surrender all

With my arms wide open

No fear, No doubt

Nothing but trust!

God: All that glitters is not Gold

I was reading Malachi 2 some weeks back and was amazed at what I found:

1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. KJV

Curse or Blessing

This amazed me simply because these are times when a lot people claim to be blessed, in spite of their ignorance as to what blessings are. A lot of people claim material possessions as blessings. They view illegal favours and recognition as blessings. To sum it up, most times what they claim to be blessings have no connection to God. This doesn’t mean God doesn’t bless them. After all, He provides for every living thing on the earth as in Matt 4:45:

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. KJV

But as said in verse 2, if we don’t give glory to His name, then He can and has cursed our blessings. It is natural to desire the things of life, it is how ever bad to envy those who have such and a lot worse to envy blessings that are cursed. Imagine going out of your way to do what whomever you admire did to get to where he/she is and lost your soul in the way? (Matt 16:26) It’s easy to look at people and envy them but do you ever really know the source of their material possessions or what they had to do to obtain them? The current story of Diezani Allison-Madueke is a startling example as to how far someone would go to achieve their aim.

All that glitters is not gold

Now I assume you’d want to argue that this was said concerning the priests and not to us all, but as was said in 1 Peter 2:9-10:

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. KJV”

My point? The fact that you are being blessed doesn’t mean you should be conceited, you have to remain humble, be self-aware and make sure you check always that you give glory unto the name of God. As the probably clichéd saying goes “all that glitters is not gold”.

Your will or His will

Casting Crowns happen to be one of those Christian bands I like especially with the fact that I’m picky when it comes to Christian songs. Their lyrics are just great and here is an excerpt of one of my favourites:

Lord, this time I’ll make it right, here at the altar I lay my life

Your kingdom come but my will was done, my heart is broken as

I…

Cry, like so many times before

But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor, oh Lord

I try but this time, Jesus, how can I be sure I will not lose my

Follow through

Between the altar and the door

It’s just lyrics that connect God to reality and not just preach an ideal that makes it seem impossible to achieve. Ever experienced God and felt that was going to be your turning point only to be back to your usual lifestyle within a week or less? Then some other times you have an epiphany and you wonder what went wrong, why it didn’t work out the last time and how far below you have sunk.

Then you get sober and say you would commit again and make sure it happens this time! And silently you ask as the song does “…but this time, Jesus, how can I be sure I will not lose my follow through between the altar and the door”.

Our imperfection as a result of sin and our gift of freewill have left most of our spiritual life like sinusoidal waves. We are up one moment and down the next, only to be back up again. It gets confusing at times and makes us uncertain about where we stand. We keep in the cycle till we realise our will can’t be done at the expense of what He says. Then we go something like this:

I’m trying so hard to stop trying so hard

Just let You be who You are

Lord, who You are in me

Jesus, I’m trying so hard to stop trying so hard

Just let You be who You are

Lord, who You are in me

And this is where 1 Peter 5:5-10 comes in, it says:

5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

8 Be sober- minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (ESV)

Anxiety isn’t unnatural, casting it on Him is what should be done as opposed to handling it ourselves. It’s also said that we should stay sober, that way we wouldn’t dry our eyes before we leave the floor. We need faith to resist the devil, faith in the sacrifice Jesus made, faith that others have passed these tests. And finally patience to hold us strong while suffering persecution knowing that God will establish us as we wait on Him!

gods

Man has always had the urge to look up to someone and he always has, but to every rule there is an exception and atheists have always been. But in recent years, God seems to be on the decline as some people request He is “kept out” of public occasions. The church population seems to be reducing worldwide and only few of those in the church still experience true fellowship.

So what has the focus of man’s urge turned to?

Man! Man believes he is god.

Well not always himself, as certain organisations believe, but he believes in other men that have done significant things and those “other men” themselves believe they are gods based on the things they have been able to achieve and through those that believe in them. Why share the praise and glory with someone who hasn’t been proven, who doesn’t exist, who never speaks back, and who didn’t actually do the work, which is a creation of men to keep other men in line?

These humans are on top of the world as defined by their achievement, influence, wealth, character and all the good things of life. They are the envy of those who wish to be in their shoes, the idols of those who worship them, the mentors of those fortunate to be chosen by them and thus we assign to them some of the characteristics of God, one of which is perfection.

But that’s just it. We expect perfection of them but yet we can’t wait to see their human side. One moment, Jay Z is the man, the next Solange attacked him and we want to see trouble in paradise. We even have stations like E! Entertainment dedicated to the lives of these people, both the good and the bad. They discuss bizarre facts about them. How they live, what they wear and eat, what they drive and other mundane habits.

It’s one of man’s many contradictions when he lifts up a man just so he could wait eagerly to watch him fall. It’s a continuous circle and there is never a dull moment. We enjoy watching the come up, are cheering fans at times of crisis as long as we still like them and we enjoy the mess that’s made when they come tumbling down uncontrollably.

We always win don’t we? But who suffers?

They say it’s easier to pull a man down than for him to pull you up. It’s the same way a man who molests his daughter can point fingers at Michael Jackson’s child molestation case, the same way drunks can point at popular alcoholics, and same way cheats point at cheating footballers and so on.

ME_175_FingerPoint22

But it’s funny because all it takes is for you to gain some sort of popularity and then your life gets put under the microscope for all to see. So I wonder why we point one finger towards the gods we made when three fingers point back to us. Why can’t we face ours and leave them to live their lives? Why can’t our fanaticism stop on the field or on the stage or on the pulpit or on the platforms? Why do we pursue after people who just want some privacy when not working? Why do we clean out their closets for them?

Please share own thoughts on this contradictory topic.

Here’s your proof

Do you believe in a higher being? Yes? No? Undecided? I totally get you. As I stated in a preceding post, Here’s your sign, the basis of Christianity is on faith which in itself isn’t a logical thing. So logically, any approach to it from the point of logic is illogical in itself. A while back, in a discussion with a friend on some tough recruitment questions from some of the world’s biggest firms, the question ‘Do you believe in a higher power?’ came up. Playing on the pun ‘higher power’, I applied mathematics to it and without a definite end in mind I ended up answering him.

What’s 2^2?

The answer is 4 right?

Correct!

What’s 4^3?

64 right?

Good!

Now what’s ∞^∞?

Yes?

I’m all ears?

Did I hear you say ∞?

No!

Did I hear you say ∞^∞?

No!

I want a numerical solution as in the earlier questions.

Any answers?

No uh? 😦

I thought so.

Life is beautiful in that at times the answer we seek is staring us right in the face and yet we are blinded to them.

The answer is that God is infinite.

And so is His love.

Just as we can never put a numerical value to ∞ or ∞^∞ as they are both indefinite terms, we can never truly put a definition to God. We refer to ourselves as the one, four times a lady, the cat with nine lives and so on, but who really can plainly state an aspect of their lives that is infinite without it being limited by time, space and resources? If we as humans are numbers with absolute values it would be plausible to take it that God is quantifiable to ∞. Why would we believe that infinity is allowed in mathematics only but can’t be applied to other aspects of knowledge? I believe this is an applicable theory in explaining the relationship between God and humans. Agree? Disagree? Do let me know. 🙂

Happy People

…and R. Kelly sings: Happy people, yeah yeah yeah, keep the world, turning turning turning, I believe that, happy people, yeah yeah yeah, keep the world, dancing dancing dancing…and then with the end of the song comes the dance, do you remember? Step to the left, step to the right, stand around and break it down tonight, bring it on up, move in close…*record scratches*…err sorry to cut you off like that but couples dancing isn’t the subject of today’s post, atleast not those types.

My favourite saying applies a great deal in this issue, “Ignorance is bliss, knowledge is power”. I remember as a child, the concept of homosexuality was foreign, it wasn’t something we children knew or spake about. Playing ‘mummy and daddy’ and being teased by friends about girls they assumed or knew we liked was natural. Except for a few isolated cases where there was a reference to it or an occurence that seemed like a bizzare exception, it wasn’t talked about. All of a sudden it was everywhere! In everyday secondary school conversations, in jokes, in disses and so on. It grew in consciousness and gradually went public, such that it finally had to be recognised by law. Gay people or ‘Happy’ people started requesting for their rights in public after being more or less in the background for centuries.

Liberalism, as everything else has its advantages and disadvantages. From a liberal point of view anyone can say and do whatever they desire but not when marriage comes in. Now marriage has always included God, and thus it would be weird if I spoke about it from a liberal point of view. Civil union has been something they used but that’s not enough, every gay boy has always dreamt of his own white wedding, to the man he ‘loves’, in the church daddy and daddy got married in. Oh well this is what the bible says about that:

Lev 18:22
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. (ESV)

Lev 20:13
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (ESV)

Romans 21-32
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. (ESV)

The above texts are from the old and new testament. Verses 26, 27 and 32 are of particular interest. It’s clear that God is clear on this issue, those who practice and those who give approval to them that do. So what do I think?

If I saw a group of Christians running after a gay person to assault or murder them, would I join them? No because that’s in the old testament and a lot of those don’t apply today. Do I support gay marriage? No. If a gay person asked me if that way of life is right would I reply in the affirmative?  No. Do I think gay couples should adopt children? No. Why not? I believe God gave us free will and so if gay people want to have sex in their privacy then that’s their decision as God isn’t in support of premarital sex and a lot of us engage in it. So if we use our freewill to sin against God then I feel we shouldn’t point fingers. Whatever decisions they make is between them and God, and only He can judge. However, I don’t support their marriage especially NOT in a church of God. Again I quote Myles Monroe “Every problem in the society can be traced back to the family”. God made a system of family where the father and mother have a blessed union and produce children who are raised with the love of God and who are given an identity and where there are no kids, the adopted children should be raised by a father and mother. With the increase in divorce rates, increase in the number of single parents, reducing number of hours career parents spend with their children in a week, I think it would be a step further in the wrong direction for children to be raised in a home with ‘parents’ of the same sex.

I’m of the opinion that we should focus our attenion on returning to the core values that now only exist in storybooks and build our families the way it was intended. The institution of marriage which has been ridiculously abused needs to be placed back on the pedestal where it should be. In the beginning God saw Adam was alone and He made a woman from and for him. Simple! Let’s all get back to the only functional plan for society so that we can all live under the blessings of God as happy people.

Letting go…

In just that moment I didn’t care, I wanted to hurt you like you hurt me
When would it stop?
You apologise for the same things, the few times you do that is
Never stopping to see things from my point of view, how dare you?
The pride in your aura suffocates the air
Imagine the sun growing and melting the planets one by one, that’s the way my love for you burns away
How long till there is none left?
Hate
How great?
The heat that melts the sun
The cold that freezes hell over
Is that really possible?
Is it ever black and white?
Like the earth with only land or with water only?
So many little pricks, like acupuncture, only with all the pain that should come with it
They all sum up till I bend or you break
It’s tiring; I can’t keep fighting you for us
So I’m letting go…

I deserve to know, it’s only fair really
Telling me you forgot, making me look silly
It wasn’t you alone, sharing is caring
But now you don’t care so you refuse to share
The fact that it’s buried doesn’t mean its dead
If in daylight, it can be exhumed without fear
The skeletons in our cupboards we dread
Trust me, I can keep my composure during closure
Will I ever get to know?
Should I move on or wait for tomorrow?
Resurrection
Mortality
Life is never fair
Live life to the fullest
Oh how we settle for less
Time is the road we can’t cross
But love came alive on the cross
Someone said life is a play we don’t get to rehearse
The cursor blinks still, waiting for the story to be finished
Questions still unanswered
So I ask to let go…

My conscience is clear, I tried my best
Can’t give you what I don’t have
But I give you what I want back
Sincere love the best way I know how
Time
You’re only ready when I’m gone
Like a damaged womb with many children unborn
Or like a vampire who doesn’t wake to the sun
In Gulliver’s land who are the Lilliputians?
And so my actions go unnoticed
Little acts from a big heart
Isn’t that what matters?
But we are mere matter
In the end, nothing really matters
Our errors are enough
Past, present, future
A continuous cycle
Does it ever end?
Yet, we’re given one life to live
Goodbye to the past
The present is a present and I embrace it
The present is the past when the future is present
So I reach for the future and as for the past
I’m Letting go…
